Numbered run 001 · Seven layers

Pressed in Ghent

Aura Sole

A sneaker built the way a sheet of paper is: pulped, cut, folded and pressed. Seven layers go into the press separate and come out as one object that still remembers being separate. Scroll to take it apart.

Colorway — Manila Press

Unbleached kraft stock, pressed twice.

Anatomy

Seven sheets, one shoe

Nothing here is moulded. Each layer is a flat sheet with a job, stacked in an order that has not changed since the first pair. Hover a layer to pull it out of the stack.

Craft

A mill, not a factory

Three rooms, one press, and a vat that never fully empties. The offcuts from every run go back in, so each pair carries a little of the one before it.

01

Pulp

Offcuts from the previous run go back into the vat. Nothing leaves the floor as waste, it just becomes next season.

02

Cut

Every panel is knife-cut against a steel rule. The burr on the edge is left visible, because it is the honest part.

03

Press

Seven layers go under forty tonnes for a minute. They come out as one object that still remembers being separate sheets.
